{3:00pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +45 on Billy's BMT calendar, and Billy's 12th Birthday.
Gifts from Uncle Tom, and Vanessa What another Beautiful day in Paradise*wink*. Billy was up before Alicia and I this morning, not because of his Birthday, but because of the steroids he is taking. He has been very restless, and is becoming a bit "puffy" in the face*wink*, Just two of the many side effects of the drug. Billy is eating alot as well, which is a good thing, but can also be due to the steroids he is taking.
Alicia and I asked Billy once again, what he would like for Dinner tonight?, and again he insisted on "PIZZA"!! So, Pizza it is. We are not permitted to get take out Pizza, so we got the next best thing, DiGiorno!! To the left (above), I added a photo of what Billy received from his Uncle Tom, and Aunt Vanessa. A Great Baseball card collection of over 1000 cards, and what can possibly be Billy's next hobby, he received three Silver Kennedy Half Dollar coins (mint cond.), in their own sealed cases. Thank you as well, for the monetary gift*wink*.
Gifts from Lady Gator, and Sub SailorsHere as well, is another photo of a package Billy received for his Birthday. Our Friend, Diva Lady Gator (Wendy), visited her Daughter, Diva Angel Eyes (Jodi), in New London, Ct. a week or so ago, and her Daughter's Husband (Don B.), who is in the US Navy. They got all the Sailors together, and got Billy some very Special Gifts for his Birthday! You can see in the photo, that there is a Navy T-shirt signed by everyone from the Submarine Base. Billy also received his Dolphins (the equivalent of a Pilots Wings), and was made an "Honorary Submariner"! The Navy Cap will surly come in handy*wink*, and check out the Gator!! He has his own Navy T-shirt!! Wendy, Please pass on to your Son in law, and Daughter, a Great Big {{{{HUG}}}}, and to all the Folks involved from the US Navy, We send a "Hand Salute", and a Heart Felt "Thank You".

Can you smell the Birthday cake cooking??! Alicia is busy in the kitchen as we speak, making Billy's Birthday cake (YUM). Billy is busy putting together, one of the gifts he got from Ama, and Apa. I think he now has all the figures in that series of "Bionicles".
Did you all get a chance to see the web site Diva Peg from AZ, put together for Billy? No..., well click below to check it out*wink*. Thank you Peg, and all the Diva's of the Net.

Billy was visited by his Friend Michael today. Michael used to live across the street, but moved to Green Bay, WI. when Pro. football season opened about 5 years ago. Michael's Dad, Tyrone Williams, played for the Green Bay Packers (#37). He now plays for the Atlanta Falcons, so Michael is down here for the summer, staying across the street at his Aunt Carol's home. Even though Michael has been away, Billy and he have kept in touch, and visit with each other when he is in town.

Billy received a phone call from Annie in PR, this afternoon, and all of the folks in her Prayer circle sang "Happy Birthday" to Billy over the Phone !! Thank you all so much, that was very thoughtful, and a real surprise*wink*.

Please Pray for Billy.........................

{6:00pm EST}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +46 on Billy's BMT calendar. Todays counts are: WBC @ 16.90, RBC @ 3.80, Hemoglobin @ 12.6, platelets @ 53,000. ANC @ 14,400. Being that this is a new page, I'll point out the "NORMAL" blood count levels, which are:
WBC: 4.0 - 10.5
RBC: 4.20 - 5.60
Hemoglobin: 12.5 - 16.1
Platelets: 150.000 - 450.000
We hope this update finds you all in good spirits. As you can tell by the counts above, we visited the Clinic today for blood work. Billy's counts are still all looking fabulous, and so is he *wink*. As we were in our room waiting for Dr. Petrovic to come in to see Billy, I asked Alicia if I should ask her about the "R" word. Well, when Dr. Petrovic arrived, I asked her, "When can we know that Billy is in Remission?", She said right now. Dr. Petrovic informed us that all of Billy's tests have come back, all the way down to the molecular level's, and all are clear of cancer cells; Billy is in Remission.

remission:
A decrease in or disappearance of signs and symptoms of cancer. In partial remission, some, but not all, signs and symptoms of cancer have disappeared. In complete remission, all signs and symptoms of cancer have disappeared, although cancer still may be in the body.

As you can see, the definition is blunt, and to the point. Either you are, or you're not. It also says that there still may be cancer in the body. We'll cross that bridge "IF" we get to it, until then, Billy is in remission*wink*. Billy has had a fairly good day today, and is still doing very well with his meds. Billy's prednisone dosage has been cut once again, it is now at 20mg x 4 times per day. That is down 8mg. Dr Petrovic is starting to wean Billy OFF them, and by May 20th Billy will not have to take steroids any longer, unless his GVHD acts up again.

We want to thank everyone who called Billy to wish him a Happy Birthday, He really appreciated all the calls, and is a bit overwhelmed by the number of people who are with him on his Journey to defeat cancer. We, Alicia and I, could never thank you all enough. Although Billy's Journey is far from over, we are closer than ever.

Please Pray for Billy.........................

{5:00pm EST}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +47 on Billy's BMT calendar. Billy had the day off from his clinic visits, so there are no counts to report*wink*. Billy did have the chance to attend Math class this morning though*wink*, and was welcomed back with "open arms". There is only a month or so, left of school, and Billy hopes he can get caught up some, on what he has missed. Although Billy's grades have been strong, he really doesn't want to miss much time in class, and wants to at least make an effort, What a "Champ".

Billy had a pretty good day today, and managed to get some exercise in as well. There isn't very much he can do but keep his muscles working. He can't stand on his right leg, and really shouldn't try. The "spacer" that is in place is only there temporarily, and is not meant to support Billy's weight. It is very important, as you know, for Billy to move his leg as often as he possibly can so that his muscles don't weaken beyond repair. We still have no date, as to when the re-constructive surgery will be done, and as with alot that goes on with Billy, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it*wink*.

Please CLICK HERE to view a Great piece written by Our good Friend Peggy, from Arizona, for Billy and his Remission. Thank you so much Peg, this is so sweet of you*wink*.

{6:00pm EST}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +48 on Billy's BMT calendar. Todays counts are: WBC @ 16.30, RBC @ 3.80, Hemoglobin @ 12.2, platelets @ 45,000. ANC @ 13,600.

"Just Hold me, make it go away". This is what Alicia asked of me, as once again, she had a bad reaction to her weekly Avonex injection. This time it was only 11:00pm (last night), and not at 2:00 in the morning. She once again started to shake, and shiver, as her temperature rose. I did, as I usually do; I held her until she calmed down, then she fell asleep. She always worries that Billy will see her in this state, he didn't.

Billy had a good visit at the Clinic this morning, As you can see, his counts are still stable. Billy had the suture removed from his leg where he had the skin biopsy done, and there were no complications. Billy is to have another round of Pentamidine on Friday when he visits the clinic again.

What is pentamidine?
Nebulised pentamidine is a drug given to children to prevent a type of chest infection called Pneumocystis Carinii pneumonia. You may hear the doctors and nurses referring to this as ‘PCP’. This infection is due to an organism (bug) that is probably present in most people’s lungs. Children who are receiving long term drugs which interfere with the body’s ability to cope with infections may be more at risk from this type of pneumonia. The symptoms of this infection are a raised temperature, rapid breathing and a dry cough.

Dr. Petrovic gave Billy the option of have this treatment by nebuliser (breathed in), or IV; Billy choose IV *wink*, he really doesn't like the mask on his face, or the smell of the medicine. The drug is a bit more toxic in IV form, because less is absorbed by the body in the atomized state (breathed in). This process will take about 2 hours to complete on Friday, so Billy will spend a bit more time at the clinic than he would normally. Billy was able to attend class again today, and was really happy about it. We really thank his teachers for their patience, and guidance.

Billy received a package from Mary M., and Family (fm. the Soo) today. Thank you Guy's so Much, that was so very thoughtful of you, once again *wink*.

Please Pray for Billy.........................
bpbullit Thur. 22 Apr. 2004 sunny 83° ....... A Beautiful Day in Paradise!
{5:00pm EST}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +49 on Billy's BMT calendar. Billy had a good day today, and did take part in both his Science, and Geography class's today. Things weren't as bad as he thought they'd be. He was afraid he'd be overwhelmed due to the fact that he missed alot of time in class. "Not a problem", he said*wink*. Can you believe, that tomorrow is 50 days since Billy's Bone Marrow Transplant was done? Where does the time go?

We want to send out a "Special Thank You" to our Friend Kathy J., in NC. Billy received your card, and Gift today*wink*. Thank you Kiddo!
