{4:00pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +156 on Billy's BMT calendar.
Once again, here are what the Normal blood counts levels are:
WBC: 4.0 - 10.5
RBC: 4.20 - 5.60
Hemoglobin: 12.5 - 16.1
Platelets: 150.000 - 450.000
I hope this update finds you in good spirits. Billy is doing just fine, although he is still having morning nausea and some vomiting. Billy is anxious to get back to schooling, and knows this will be a great "boredom relief". Although I really haven't talked much about it, Billy has really been somewhat withdrawn lately. It has been so upsetting at times for Alicia and myself to see Billy in such a state. He is limited as to what he can do, as he is somewhat isolated from others, and other surroundings. There is only so much we can do, or he is "allowed" to do. Being stuck at home for the better part of 2 years hasn't been a very pleasing way to grow up. Sure, he says he's still alive; and getting better every day, but he just wants to be "twelve", and do what 12 year olds do. It just tears us apart at times. Yes, school will ease some of the symptoms............then what? He wants so much to be able to pet his cat, and she really miss's him as well. It has been over 5 months since he last touched her.
Billy's next visit to the Hospital (clinic) is on Tuesday the 10th., we will have some blood counts then. Billy hasn't had a fever, or any further swelling in his leg since the last episode a few weeks ago. His "features" are coming back to normal, slowly but surely, and he can really notice the difference in his breathing. It was something to see, the effects that the Prednisone (steroid's) had on Billy, and how it can distort how someone looks *wink*.

Please Pray for Billy.........................and ALL children of cancer.

{12:00pmWelcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +159 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 3.10, RBC @ 3.22, Hemoglobin @ 11.1, platelets @ 116,000. ANC @ 1,600.
Billy is in class (pre-algebra) as I update you, and he'll be in Science class next *wink*. I guess the excitement of the studies of the day got the best of Billy, he became very dis-oriented, and uneasy. He felt very light headed and demanded a break. His Tuesday class's were supposed to be 1:00 thru 3:00 pm, but was changed to 10:00 thru 12:00pm. We knew this would be difficult for Billy due to the fact that his clinic visit is at 8:00am. Billy's nausea and vomiting in the morning's doesn't allow him to take his meds without eating, or trying to eat. BUT.......... he can't take his meds until AFTER his clinic visit, so that his counts are accurate. So............. Billy takes all his morning meds when he gets home, just as class is starting, and as he is trying to get something in his stomach *wink*. Thus, the bad reaction's. Maybe this is an unusual episode, and it won't be repeated, or maybe the 1:00 start time is the better of the two. We'll see if we can change it back to then. Billy had a good visit to the clinic this morning, as you can tell by his counts (above). There were some problems with his Broviac Catheter while trying to get blood return for the tests that are done. We will need to go back to the clinic this afternoon at 1:00pm to see if they could "unclog" it with a special solution. Dr. Petrovic told Billy if all else fails, they'll just remove the Broviac, and use his Medi-Port instead. Dr. Petrovic told Billy that his clinic visit's will now be 'every 2 weeks', providing his condition remains stable, as do his counts. A CBC will still be done once per week (it's confusing me too!).

The return visit to the clinic this afternoon to correct the problem in Billy's Broviac was a success. After filling the line's with a dissolveing solution, and waiting an hour or so for it to work, the both lines flushed just fine, and all is well *wink*. We will continue to flush the lines daily, at home.

{10:00am}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +161 on Billy's BMT calendar.
As most of you are aware, we reside in St. Petersburg, Florida; on an Island in Tampa Bay. If you've been watching the news lately, you are also aware that a major hurricane (catagory 3), Charley, is forecasted to make a direct hit, as of the 10:00am forecast, in our area. We will most likely, evacuate Billy to the Hospital until this situation pass's. We will be contacting Dr. Petrovic, and her staff for advice. We are expecting 110-120 mile per hour winds in the area at about 4:00pm tomorrow, but things will surely start to get bad around here starting around noon tomorrow. We are starting to also feel the effects of Tropical Storm Bonnie, which is now passing just to the north of us as we speak *wink*. Scared? not really, but we need to take precautions. I will try and get an update out to you all later on this afternoon, but if you don't hear from us in the next couple days please know that we are "probably" alright, and I will get an update posted as soon as possible. Please pray that damage will be light, and no lives will be lost.

Please Pray for Billy.........................and ALL children of cancer.

{9:15pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +162 on Billy's BMT calendar.
What a day it has been here in St. Pete. At the very same time Hurricane Charley was upgraded to a category 4 hurricane (145 mph winds) it made a sudden turn to the right (east) and made land fall in Port Charrlott, Punta Gorda area, about 50 miles south of here. We had very little rain here, and almost no winds to speak of. The Hurricane is now about 50 miles to our east (100 mph winds); so much damage has been done, and it could have been here as it was forecasted to be. Thank you all for your Prayers, they truly worked!

Please, if you can find it in your Heart, say a Special Prayer for our Friend Casie. She is still in very, very serious condition, and in ICU. The prognosis does not look very favorable for her. Please visit her site, and leave a note or two for her, her Parents, and her Friends. They truly need your Prayers.

Please Pray for Billy.........................and ALL children of cancer.

{9:00pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +164 on Billy's BMT calendar.
Things are starting to calm down around here, as death and destruction lay just a mere 50 miles to our east, and as far as 200 miles to our south. As you are aware, we were supposed to get a direct hit from Fridays hurricane, but it took a strange right turn, and went inland south of us. It traveled the length of Florida (400 miles) and exited in Daytona Beach. Almost 1 million homes were damaged, or destroyed. The estimate in dollars is around 15 billion.....yes, BILLION. So far, at least 60 are confirmed dead, and they expect possibly hundreds more. We have been glued to the news channel ever since Friday, and can't believe what we are seeing. We would have surely lost our home to the hurricane if it's path was as expected. It would have passed right over our house as it headed up Tampa Bay. Our house, what would have been left, would have been under 14 feet of water from the expected storm surge. We will be counting our blessings for some time to come, I promise you.

Billy is doing very well, although troubled by daily bouts of nausea & vomiting. He is adjusting to the start of school as well, He really missed it!! Billy's next clinic visit is on Tuesday the 17th. Yes, My Birthday is on Thursday the 19th............I will be 29 *wink*!!!

bpbullit Casie's Mom had just called Alicia, and asked if she can get in contact with Father Mike from our Church, and have him come to the Hospital. Casie is not expected to survive much longer, Her body is shutting down, and she is in an induced coma. Please pray for her, that she is without pain, and surrounded by those who Love her.

Please Pray for Billy.........................and ALL children of cancer.

{1:30pmWelcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +166 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 2.30, RBC @ 3.21, Hemoglobin @ 11.0, platelets @ 117,000. ANC @ 1,100.
Billy had a good visit to the Clinic this morning. His counts (above) have held pretty much, since the last visit, although his WBC, and ANC are lower. Dr. Petrovic was unavailable this morning because she was involved in a procedure, so she will give us a call this afternoon if she feels Billy should get a dose of Neupogen to boost his WBC a bit. Billy had his Broviac dressing changed while at the clinic as well, this is done on a weekly basis to aid in the prevention of infection's.
Billy's overall condition at this point after His bone marrow transplant was done 166 days ago, is considered "excellent".
Billy really had a fun time with his Science class this afternoon, his teacher Mrs. Watkins, brought over a microscope and they "carefully" studied the contents of pond water. She was a bit concerned with Billy having contact with it due to his immune system being suppressed. Billy was OK with it, and we made sure he had on his latex gloves while he handled the slides and instraments. Science and Biology were always my favorite subjects during my school days, and although Billy really likes all his class's in school, he has really taken a liking to them as well *wink*.

{3:00pm}Welcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +169 on Billy's BMT calendar.
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their "Birthday wish's". I had a very quiet Birthday at home yesterday. Alicia made our "favorite"................ baked lazagna!! She also baked a German Chocolate cake, which was just as good!! We usually get a strawberry shortcake for my birthdays, but Billy can't have "over the counter" items such as deli meats, etc., and ..............Birthday cakes!
Billy is feeling pretty good lately, although his nausea and vomiting is still an issue in the mornings. This is really troubling to him because of the meds he takes, and or, re-takes if he should vomit. The rule we go by, as told to us by Dr. Petrovic is that, if Billy should vomit within 30 mins. of taking his meds, he has to take them all over again. So, he winds up taking his meds later, and later in the mornings to be sure his nausea has subsided, and he doesn't risk bringing his meds "back up". Oh Well *wink*.....

{10:30amWelcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +173 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 2.90, RBC @ 3.61, Hemoglobin @ 11.9, platelets @ 148,000. ANC @ 1,500.
We hope this update finds you all in good spirits. Billy's visit to the clinic this morning showed another increase in his blood counts, including a 31,000 jump in Billy's platelet count from a week ago. Although still barely outside the "normal" range (see above), it is still a wonderful thing to see. Dr. Petrovic 'hesitatingly' mentioned that within a few weeks she will start to wean Billy off of one of the "anti-rejection" drugs he has been on since his transplant was performed on March 4th. The drug Cyclosporine Billy has been taking has been closely monitored since the 1st day it was administered, and adjusted according to the levels found in his system through weekly blood tests. Billy was, at one time, taking 8 pills (200 mg) per day of this drug; he is now taking 2 in the morning, and 3 in the evening, for a total of 5 per day; along with the other 8 meds he is still on.

Billy's monthly dose of Pantamadine (1 hour infusion) was administered this morning as well.
