{11:30amWelcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +176 on Billy's BMT calendar. Once again, here are what the Normal blood counts levels are:
WBC: 4.0 - 10.5
RBC: 4.20 - 5.60
Hemoglobin: 12.5 - 16.1
Platelets: 150.000 - 450.000
Billy is still "re-writing the book", when it comes to the progress he has shown to this point in his bone marrow transplant (day +176). Billy's CBC are showing a marked increase in blood counts, most noted are the platelets. Dr. Petrovic is just "thrilled" with the latest surge in the platelet count. Billy's next visit to the clinic will be on Tuesday for counts, and Cyclosporine levels. Billy has his monthly, 5 1/2 hour IVIG infusion on Wednesday as well. This clinic visit usually winds up being a long 7 hours, or so. If all goes as planned, this part of Billy's treatment will be scaled back some. Dr. Petrovic almost elected to forego this months IVIG treatment, but at the last moment she opted to go ahead with it, as usual.
Billy is doing well in his schooling, and looks forward to it's daily tasks. Along with a weekly visit from his Advanced Math, and Science Teacher (Mrs. Watkins), he is also being visited weekly, by his Advanced language Arts Teacher (Mrs. Mariani). All his other class's are via tele-class. Both Teachers mentioned here are also from last years studies, and Billy is really happy to have them as his Teachers again this School year*wink*.
Alicia has been having some very serious pains in her lower right rib cage area, indicative of "gal bladder" problems. She went to her Dr. yesterday, and had x-rays done of the area in question. She is also scheduled for ultrasounds to be done on Tuesday. Taking into consideration, the fact that she has MS (multiple sclerosis), any surgical procedure's will only aggravate her condition, which leads me to say that she is really distraught over this situation.

Please Pray for Billy.........................and ALL children of cancer.

{2:00pmWelcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +181 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 2.80, RBC @ 3.47, Hemoglobin @ 12.0, platelets @ 155,000. ANC @ 1,800.
Although still on the "low" side, Billy's platelet counts are "officially in the "normal" range for the first time in over a year, and not aided by artificial stimulation. Billy's own bone marrow has produced healthy cells on it's own, and in great quantities. Dr. Petrovic is so very happy to see these results, and told Billy he is "doing Great".
Billy is still at the Clinic as I update you. He is receiving his monthly, 5 1/2 hour IVIG infusion, which was started at around 11:00 this morning. Billy has had some bad bouts with nausea, and vomiting for the past few days (mornings), but Dr. Petrovic assures us (him) that this is all normal reactions to the numerous amount of meds he is taking daily, and the fact that he still has a "mild" case of Gastritis.

It's gonna be pretty hectic around here once again in the next few days, due to the possible arrival of Hurricane Frances on or about Friday night, Saturday morning. We lucked out 3 weeks ago as hurricane Charley missed us by 50 miles. This one is expected to come ashore on the east coast of Florida as a category 4 (145mph winds), and come across the state (80 miles), and exit the west coast some where around our location. Lets hope and pray that it too miss's us as well.

I would like to inform all of you who have asked about Alicia, that her x-rays and scans show no evidence of gall stones, or kidney stones that are causing her sometime's severe pain's. She is scheduled for more tests, but as always, the reasons for her symptoms are "usually" attributed to her MS, and "spasms" of her muscles. If the Dr.s can't explain the reason for her pain...........they blame it on her MS; Go Figure *wink*.

Please Pray for Billy.........................and ALL children of cancer.

September is:

National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
{10:30amWelcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +182 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 2.30, RBC @ 3.41, Hemoglobin @ 11.8, platelets @ 149,000. ANC @ 900.
Billy had a Clinic visit this morning to have his Cyclosporine levels checked. This, as you know *wink*, is done on a weekly basis. It was a bit high last week, so with today's results, it may be altered up or down. Billy's ANC is down below 1,100, so he received a dose of Neupogen to stimulate WBC growth, and raise the ANC. All of Billy's counts were a bit lower today, but as usual, this is expected. Billy's condition is still "remarkable", and we continue to pray that it will continue to be *wink*.

May I make a suggestion to those of you who ask what you can do for Billy? Instead of sending Billy your much appreciated cards, and or gifts this Month; Please consider making a donation in Billy's name to the National Childrens Cancer Society. They have been an immense help to us over the past 2 years, and we make every attempt to let them know just how much they have meant to us, every chance we get. Also, Please consider Childhood Cancer Awareness.org for your gift of donation, they too, have been a pillar of strength for us and many, many more children of cancer.

As Elvis would say, "Thank you, Thank you very much"! Uncle Tom. Billy received your package this afternoon.
Please Pray for Billy.........................and ALL children of cancer.

{3:30pmWelcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +186 on Billy's BMT calendar.
We finally got to "power up" the computer's, it has been a terrible couple of days here in "paradise". Hurricane Frances' eye passed 15 miles to our north last night. We had 70mph winds here for the better part of the past 2 days, with numerous power outage's as well. Looking at this image, taken by satellite at 11:30am on Sunday. The eye of the hurricane was about 45 miles to our south-east at this point, and taking it's sweet 'ole time getting here *wink*. The storm moved at only 8 miles per hour as it crossed the state. We have had over 9 inches of rain so far, as well. We didn't have any damage to our home, but the trees took a beating. The neighborhood is a "mess", and the roads leading to our Island is flooded. We are all in good spirits, considering how bad the past 3 days have been. Billy is feeling just Great, and was able to have one of his Friends (John P.) over on Saturday, before everything started to fall apart around here weather-wise!!
Please Pray for Billy.........................and ALL children of cancer.

{7:30pmWelcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +188 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 2.10, RBC @ 3.66, Hemoglobin @ 12.3, platelets @ 160,000. ANC @ 800.
Billy's visit to the clinic today was uneventful. Billy had another Bone Marrow Aspiration during today's visit, with no complications other than a bit of discomfort during the "pull". This is the process that is done to retrieve the marrow. Click on "bone marrow aspiration" to read all about this delicate procedure. The Cytogenetics will take at least a week to be done, so as usual, we have to "bite our lips" for the news on this test *wink*. We should have the preliminary results in a day or two, as far as any evidence of MDS in Billy's bone marrow. Please pray that all is clear.
Billy's white blood count, and ANC were low (again), so he received another dose of Neupogen to stimulate the production of white blood cells, and boost his ANC. Dr. Petrovic showed a bit of concern at the low count, but will hold off on any "reasoning" until the results are in on the bone marrow.
How 'bout those platelets!! Up to 160,000 now!! Dr. Petrovic was "delighted" to see this level, as were we!!
Billy gave Alicia and I permission to treat each other to Dinner "out". We had a very nice quiet dinner at Chilies, but really missed Billy's company...............and couldn't wait to get home!
Please Pray for Billy.........................and ALL children of cancer.

{4:00pmWelcome back to Billy's Page. Today is Day +190 on Billy's BMT calendar. Today's counts are: WBC @ 3.40, RBC @ 3.63, Hemoglobin @ 12.1, platelets @ 127,000. ANC @ 1,900.
AS you can see, by the counts above, the Neupogen Billy received on Wednesday did boost Billy's WBC and ANC. The platelets took a dip though. Dr. Petrovic called us last night, and told us that Billy's bone marrow was still clear of tumor cells, and all the visible cells were healthy blood cells (red, white, and platelets). The results from the Cytogenetics will be back next week.

As you are all aware, we are in the path of yet another hurricane (Ivan) which is expected to be in our area on Tuesday morning, providing the current track holds true (see map below)

projected path of hurricane Ivan (9-10-2004)

This is another category 4 (145mph winds) hurricane. We here in central Florida, are still digging out from the aftermath of Charley and Frances, and can't really take too much more of this. I will try, as always, to keep you all up to date as to how we are doing here in St. Pete., so please don't get all upset if a few days pass without an update *wink*. We should start to feel the effects of Ivan sometime on Monday morning, as it approaches from the south east.
Please Pray for Billy.........................and ALL children of cancer.
