Today is the 520 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
We hope this update finds you well. Billy had a wonderful first few days of school, and unlike some kids *wink*, he is "glad to be back"! After school yesterday, Billy had enough time to relax a bit, before we headed over to All Childrens Hospital, to meet with The Media Staff of H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, and photographer, for the photo shoot with Billy. As I explained earlier, Billy was chosen to represent the Children who have benefited from the care of the two Hospitals. Now that they have become affiliated, and joined forces, a story about the care Billy has received from the two Hospital's is being done, and is being featured in a yearly National publication, to be released next month. Billy was asked to have some photo's taken with:

Dr. G. Barbosa, M.D.
Medical Director All Children's Hospital Hematology/Oncology Department; St. Petersburg.

Dr. G.Douglas Letson, M.D.
Assistant Professor of Oncology & Surgery, Program Leader Sarcoma program; Director of Rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal Tumor, and Reconstructive Surgery at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa
These two Dr.'s, along with the entire staff of their respective Hospital's, played a critical roll in Billy's cancer treatment's. As their Titles dictate, Dr. Barbosa's Oncology team treated Billy's cancer's; and Dr. Letson's surgical expertise, removed Billy's cancerous femur and knee, and re-built his leg (3 time's). Billy had an enjoyable time, as we spent the better part of 2 hour's, having photo's taken. I was able to get one myself, before the photographer started shooting *wink*!

After the photo shoot, Alicia, Billy, and I stopped at the 2nd floor (2 south west), to visit our "home away from home", for the past 3 years *wink*. We visited with some of the staff, and the patients. As usual, the ward was full of "bald headed" kids, and nurses and Dr's taking care of them. Everyone was so happy to see Billy, and commented on just how well he looked. A few of the kids we visited were "openly" encouraged as Billy spoke of his battles with cancer. He said, "You won't be a Bald Kid forever, you too, will beat the Monster in you".

Please Pray for Billy........................and EVERY Child of Cancer.

Today is the 517 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
We are so very Proud of this moment, and Billy. This photo depicts something we truly couldn't foresee. All of the uncertainties we faced, the percentages against us, and the statistics be fore us. Our ability to "plan ahead" ceased 3 years ago, as did our way of Life. 1st and foremost, was the survival of our Son, and the defeat of cancer times 2. Billy was isolated in his battles, as his world closed in on him. "Bring it on", he said, and this is the Miracle before us. Billy's isolation is over, his World is open to him, and his Life is anew.

Billy today, has re-taken his position among the Worlds population, and joined the ranks of those, referred to as "survivors"; and he truly is. We are so grateful for this moment, and proud to share it with every one of you. You ALL have played a very special roll in guiding Billy, Alicia, and I to this point time, where we can actually take a step back, and breath a sigh of relief; and we did just that. To be able to bring Billy back to School, and see him melt in with all of the other Children on this 1st day of School, will be a sight we'll not soon forget, and every one of you were there with us. To say this was yet another "milestone" in Billy's Journey would be the easiest way to describe it, but what it truly is, is a "MIRACLE"............

Please Pray for Billy........................and EVERY Child of Cancer.

Today is the 515 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
We hope this update finds you all well. We had a very nice trip to Miami this weekend. Although it was only for a couple days, it was nice to see Ama, Apa. We also visited with Alicia's Brother Juani, His Wife, and their Daughter(Billy's cousin)Adriana. Uncle Juani also took Billy to their favorite "game room", Dave and Buster's; for some quality one on one time. Billy really enjoy's his Uncle Juani (thanks Juani).
Billy's visit to the Dentist this morning was un-eventful. The Dr. removed the last of Billy's "Baby" teeth, and cleaned and sealed his teeth. This afternoon Alicia took Billy back to Shriner's to have another pair of sneakers fitted with a "lift".

Billy is feeling pretty good, although a bit nervous, about starting school in 2 days. We are going to meet with his guidance counselor tomorrow afternoon, and Billy will have some time to ask some questions, and familiarize himself with the school.
I took another photo of Billy's lengthening incision today........

Today is the 511 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
Billy (and Alicia) was released yesterday afternoon, and has successfully completed his 2+ weeks of physical therapy at Shriners Childrens Hospital, Tampa. Billy is very Proud of his accomplishment's, as are we *wink*.

Billy, Alicia, and I are heading down to Miami for the weekend, to visit Ama and Apa. Billy starts School on Wednesday, so one last "Road Trip" was in order! Billy has an appointment with the dentist on Monday, and we are to meet with his Guidance Counselor on Tuesday, at the school. Billy also has a "photo shoot" with the Media Staff of H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa on Friday, the 5th of August. Billy will be accompanied by Dr. Letson of Moffitt, and Dr. Barbosa of All Childrens Hospital, St. Pete.. This is the final "episode" of the Documentary to be done, with Billy as the central character, representing the affiliation of the two Hospital's, and the treatment's Billy has received by them. Every one associated with this publication is excited to be part of Billy's Journey, and to be able to tell his Story.

Please Pray for Billy........................and EVERY Child of Cancer.

Today is the 508 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
Well, Billy is back at Shriner's for some more PT *wink*. Billy will be released on Wednesday afternoon, after his 3:00 PT session. Billy will resume his PT at home upon his release. Billy's schedule, when he starts School on August 3rd, will be too hectic, so his PT will be done in our home 3 days per week. We are grateful to be able to have this "choice".

Please hold our 'lil Friend Hannah (see link to the right) in your hearts. She has been refered to Sloan, in NYC for further treatment. Please sign her guestbook, Today is her 3rd Birthday.

Please Pray for Billy........................and EVERY Child of Cancer.

Today is the 505 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
We hope this update finds you well. Billy and Alicia are finally home! Billy was released for the weekend, and Alicia decided to come home too *wink*! Yes, they are sooooooooooo happy to be home. Billy's physical therapy has gone extremely well, so much so, that he is able to walk without the use of his crutches (again). His therapist wants Billy to "try" and limit the use of the crutches from now on. Billy has been using only one crutch for the past few weeks, and is now able to walk some, without it. His leg is feeling "pretty good"{his words}, and he feels as though he'll be able to take on the challenge's of walking to and from his class's, when School starts in 2 weeks. That's right, Billy will be going back to "real" School, 8th Grade, in 2 weeks. He has been through so very much in the past 3 years, and accomplished so much more.............

For those of you who asked about how Billy's lengthening took place; well I'll tell 'ya again *wink*. The prosthesis in Billy's leg is a "complete" femur, and knee. The femur part of the prosthesis can, and will be lengthened, about every 3 month's, by making an incision (see camera below), and inserting a "screwdriver type" tool into a slot in the prosthesis and turning it to lengthen the prosthesis. This process was done last week, and lengthened Billy's leg 1.2 centimeters, about a 1/2 inch.

Today is the 504 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
We hope this update finds you well. Billy continue's to show good progress in his physical therapy sessions, and is looking forward to coming home tomorrow, for the weekend. It has been pretty tough on the three of us, being apart. Only one parent is permitted to stay at Shriner's with the child, and you know Alicia won't stay away for one minute *wink*.

I hope you like the "new look" of Billy's page. The subtle gray look is reflective of the "gray" world of cancer. Unlike previous pages, new entries (updates) to Billy's page will be placed at the top of the page's. As usual, you can check the heading above, to see if the page has been updated, and when. The menu to the left will get you around Billy's Page; and the links to the right, will take you to site's I feel useful, for one reason or another.

Thank you all once again, for your continued support, thought's, and Prayer's. We truly appreciate each and every one of you *wink*.

Please Pray for Billy........................and EVERY Child of Cancer.
