Today is the 613 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
runners getting ready for the start of the race Although, a bit late *wink*, we hope this update finds you well. This update take's over where the one of Nov. 25th left off, or so it may seem! If you recall, Richard Gonzmart, the 4th generation owner of the World Famous Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City, invited Billy (Alicia and I) to an event Friday evening, that he founded 5 years ago, to draw attention to Pediatric cancer research. This event, called Richards Run For Life, is a 5k race, run through the streets of Ybor City, had drawn a over 1000 runner's this year.kids are introduced to the runners Each runner is well aware of the fact that He/She is running for the most worthy of causes. This year's race featured, as Official Starters; Billy and two other "Children of cancer". The boy to the left of Billy, Mark (age 8 / whilms tumor), has been participating for the past 4 years. The pretty 7 year old, to Billy's right, Remi, is also in her 1st year. The race was run, in just under 16 minutes, and was a very emotional thing to see. All of these runner's, some professional tri_athletes, Marathon runner's, and Nationally recognized distance runner's; were more than happy to run for these kids. As a matter of fact, the winner in the women's category was a 12 year old! Who won by 3 yards (5 meters). All of these runner's, and guests of this event, were treated to the Biggest "Paella" I have ever seen.
Mark and Billy at the Columbia Alicia, Billy, and I; along with Marks family, were treated to a wonderful dinner as Richards Guest's, at the Columbia Restaurant, a few short blocks away. The photo to the left, is one of Mark standing next to Billy before Dinner.
We had a wonderful time at this event, and will be more than happy to do the same when ever asked. People "outside" the world of Childhood cancer are sometimes introduced to their first "bald kid", by some one with their hand out, looking for a donation. I, for one, am not ashamed to be that person, and will do what ever is asked of me (Alicia feels the same) to bring attention to the "World of Childhood Cancer". As I sit here and update you, Richard, along with members of his Family, and his Team; are running in the New York City Marathon, to once again bring attention to the "world of Childhood Cancer", and research to it's cure. We are so very Proud of Him, and his Team, for all their time and effort, in everything they do as they "Lead the Charge" on their own "Crusade to a Cure" of Childhood Cancer.

Today is the 607 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
We hope this update finds you well. I would like to draw your attention to our newest link, to the right, you'll see Jay's website. Please pay him a visit, wish him well, and don't forget to tell him Billy's Dad sent 'ya!

Billy finally had his appointment with the endocrinologist this morning. Alicia and I were both in "shock" when she revealed to us that she was well aware of Billy, and his health history. Usually they would have no idea as to why we're there, and half the day would be wasted filling the Dr. in on who we are, and why we are in this particular office. It was nice to know that this Dr. was well in tune with Billy, and his unique situation.

Billy will have some blood work done on Wednesday, as well as some tests. The Dr. will compare these to a follow-up in January, to find the course of action (if any) that will be taken to get Billy's hormonal development back on track. The radiation treatments he underwent before his BMT really took it's toll. The good thing is that, there are alternative's, and way's to correct the deficiencies (if any).

Billy continue's to progress quite well in his physical therapy, and his gait (walk) is improving with every step he take's. Billy, or should I say "Bill", continue's to do very well in his studies, and is pretty much back into the daily routine of school. The report cards for the 2nd semester (6 weeks) are due out soon, and he is very optimistic *wink*.

Today is the 603 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
We hope this update finds you well. Wow, what a fantastic time we had last evening, at the World Famous Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City. Alicia, Billy, and I were invited as Special guest's of Dr. Letson (Physician of the Year), Billy's surgeon. We were introduced to the "world of Philanthropy", and what a wonderful world it is. This Gala was attended by some of the Tampa Bay area's most generous people, as we would soon find out. As individuals from our surrounding tables stood, and presented check's for tens of thousands of dollars to Dr. Letson's Sarcoma Research program at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa. This event was sponsored by the The most Gracious host, and 4th generation owner of the World Famous Columbia Restaurant, Richard Gonzmart (see Richards Run For Life). Richard is one of the most genuinely sincere person's we have ever had the privilege to meet. We were also introduced to his immediate Family, who we found to be just as Gracious. To spotlight just one instance, when one of Richards Daughter's stood, and told the crowd, that she and her Husband will add another ten thousand dollars to the total already raised. What a wonderful feeling it was to be witness to such an out pouring of generosity, in the name of cancer research. We were soon brought back to earth, when one of the "Children of cancer" was handed the microphone, and began to tell his story as to what it has been like living in the "World of cancer". Yes, This Child was Our Son Billy. Billy read from a script he prepared, and brought tears to the eyes of everyone in attendance. He talked of his cancer treatments, his surgical adventure's, his life saving bone marrow transplant, and how he admire's Dr. Letson. This is what the philanthropist's of the world need to hear. The research of the cancer's in Children need all the funding it can get, and should be on the minds of every person looking for something to invest in; Our Children of Cancer...............they're our future. Something a young lady of 18, also a patient of Dr. Letson, revealed as she spoke of her own "world of cancer", and how her life and foot, were saved from her cancer. These stories are every where, but seldom reach the ears of those with the financial powers to fund the research to find new drugs, and treatments , to replace those being used for the past 20+ years. Cancer won't wait for a cure, and neither should those with the power to cure it. Richard run's marathon's to raise funds, and awareness to this terrible disease. Dr. Letson works tirelessly to save the limbs of children with cancer, and takes it personally, when he can't. We were witness to cancer death's, and cancer Miracles; and find reason to reveal to all those who'll listen, what it's like to live in the "World of Cancer"...................Childhood cancer.

Alicia, Billy, and I would like to thank Arlynn and Leslie, who are Marketing Specialists for H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center for spending the evening with us, and opening their ears to Our "world of cancer".

...AND... I (we) would once again, like to openly thank, George H., for saving Billy's Life. Thank you George H., We Love you *wink*.

 Tue. 25 Oct. 2005
Today is the **600** day on Billy's transplant calendar.
Can you believe it has been 600 day's since Billy received his Life saving bone marrow transplant, and 1125 days since we entered the "world of cancer". We've learned so much over these "past" 3+ years.

As you can see, we made it through yet another Hurricane. Again, it was a near miss to our south. We did have some very high winds overnight Sunday through Monday, and a lot of rain. Those to our south weren't as lucky. Our Family in Miami was beat up quite a bit, and are still without power. Ama and Apa are heading up to St. Pete. today, to spend a few days with us until things get cleaned up in Miami. In all likeliness, this cold snap we are now in, will bring a close to this hurricane season. Let's hope so *wink*.

On a lighter note! Billy was invited by his surgeon, Dr. Letson, to attend (as his guest of Honor) a "Black Tie" fund raising event at the World Famous Columbia Restaurant tomorrow evening in Ybor City. I'll tell 'ya all about it, and hope to include a photo or two, in the next update.

Today is the 597 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
Still got those finger's crossed? good! We are a bit on edge here in "Hurricane Alley", as you can pretty well imagine *wink*. We did get a photo last 'nite, of Billy, and his next milestone crossed in the "world of cancer".

 Wed. 19 Oct. 2005
Today is the 594 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
We hope this update finds you All well. Billy continue's to make great progress in his remission, and has just 2 more day's of med's left. Yes, Billy will take his LAST pill on Friday evening, he will no longer be on any form of medication regarding his cancer treatment's. Yet another milestone crossed, in the "world of cancer". As you may be aware, we are once again in the path of a Hurricane. Depending on who you listen to, the storm can miss us all together, or come right down our street. In either case, we'll be gearing up to "make a run for it", if it should come this way. So, I'll not sit down to update Billy's Page until after the storm pass's. Keep your finger's crossed on this one *wink*.

 Thur. 13 Oct. 2005
Today is the 588 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
We hope this update finds you well. Dr. Petrovic called about 4pm this afternoon, to inform us that Billy's bone marrow aspiration test results were back from pathology. It was so wonderful to hear the joy in her voice, as she informed us that Billy is STILL 100% donor, and that there is STILL NO evidence of MDS, or Ewings Sarcoma. She even used the word "Perfect", when describing the results! What a relief it was to hear the GREAT new's, as living in the "world of cancer" can, and often does, throw you a curve ball every now and then. Billy has hit every pitch thrown at him out of the ball park, and he is batting 1000., and is Our MVP (most valuable player).

Please Pray for Billy........................and EVERY Child of Cancer

 Fri. 7 Oct, 2005
Today is the 582 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
We hope this update finds you well. Billy's surgery today went very well, as did the bone marrow aspiration. We arrived at ACH a little after 10am, and Billy was on his way to the OR at about 12:45pm. Billy was brought back to us around 3:00pm, ready to go home!!! Of course we had to wait to be discharged, and for Billy to re-gain his senses! YES, we were able to come home!! This was an out-patient procedure. Can you believe it, Billy's an OUT-PATIENT!! We were home at 5:00pm!! Billy is feeling a 'lil sore (leg), and his throat is a bit sore from the tube that was inserted down it. Other than that, Billy is just fine *wink*. Dr. Letson (Billy's surgeon) was able to lengthen Billy's leg another 1.2cm (3/4in). He said there was no resistance, and he could have gone a bit farther, but decided to save it for next time. The next lengthening, probably in January (at Shriner's), will make Billy's leg's "almost" the same length. The difference now, is about a half inch, at one point, it was almost 2 inch's *wink*. Thank you ALL, for your continued support, Thought's, and Prayer's.

 Wed. 5 Oct, 2005
Today is the 580 day on Billy's transplant calendar.
We hope this update find's you well. Today's visit to ACH resulted in the following blood count's: WBC@ 8.1, RBC@ 4.23, Hemoglobin@ 13.3, platelets@ 245,000. ANC@ 4400{refer to page #76 to see his last count's. All are up, considerably}
They also brought to our attention, that Billy has grown 7.5cm since he was first admitted in Oct. of 2002 to start his cancer treatment. Everyone at the Hospital was so happy to see Billy today, and were just overwhelmed at how well he was doing, and how "GREAT" his count's are. They also remarked that they received copies of "Today's Tomorrow's", the H. Lee Moffitt publication that featured Billy, and were so Proud of him!! Some even asked for his autograph *wink*. Billy's surgery is still on for this Friday, and we should know sometime tomorrow, what time he will be admitted. Dr. Petrovic will do another Bone Marrow Aspiration as planned, and will include a look at the Cytogenetics as well.

Please Pray for Billy........................and EVERY Child of Cancer
